I choose to work in a multidimensional
framework, stimulating the senses of the viewer
from many angles. I tend to focus on the process
during creation of the work as an extremely
important aspect of my art. It is of great
meaning for me, as the artist, to have a moment
of catharsis and reflection within each of my
pieces. Without the cleansing experience of
release, I feel heavy, unfulfilled, and in a
state of limbo. Words, images, distractions and
more infiltrate each moment of our daily lives.
Those permeating disturbances, growing a complex
seed of artistic endeavor, inspire the decisions
made for my work. Though an image is usually
placed in my mind, I allow my hands to search
for the best materials for my creative
experience. This allows me to work in the most
candid way possible, while staying true to the
creative process. The focal point of my current
work has been my growth as a black, Latin, adult
woman in America. My biological need for a
“unit”, technological forces, and simple every
day occurrences have caused me to discover and
explore my adulthood. But where does all of this
live within my body, and how is it being
manifested into my surroundings? I feel
challenged to create art that explores this
question and more in an open and inspiring way.
